Weevils released to target invasive mile-a-minute weed in Calhoun County

A pilot program by the Barry, Calhoun, Kalamazoo Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area (BCK-CISMA) will release weevils as a biological control agent to reduce populations of the invasive mile-a-minute weed in Calhoun. Four sites will receive 1,000 adult weevils in a release planned for Thursday, June 18.

The Alano Club on W Territorial Road has a new cafe called Recovery Grounds Cafe which offers support recovery programming and a safe place to meet. Recovery groups for gambling, alcohol and more meet at this location.

Albion receives $5M in RAP grant toward downtown redevelopment

Nine properties will be redeveloped to create 21 residential units and six new commercial spaces in downtown Albion, thanks to a $11.3 million capital investment, which includes a $5 million RAP grant. “This project will help revitalize downtown brownfield properties, drive economic activity, and support the long-term growth of our downtown,” said Debbie Kelly, CEO of the Albion Economic Development Corporation.

Marshall Public Schools receives $100,000 Safe Routes to School grant

A grant from the Michigan Department of Transportation to Marshall Public Schools will be used to develop bicycle safety curriculum and host pedestrian and bike safety events during the upcoming school year.
