Before the Albion City Council voted on May 4 to acquire the fire-damaged building at 100 S. Superior Street, city leaders, staff members, preservation advocates, and residents spent more than an hour in a study session weighing a decision that carried a hard deadline — accept the $1 transfer from the Calhoun County Land Bank Authority by May 5, or the building would face demolition under a federally funded blight elimination program.
WK Kellogg Co. to shutter Omaha facility in August

Battle Creek-based WK Kellogg Co. on May 22 filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification letter with the Nebraska Department of Labor announcing its intent for a phased reduction in workforce at its cereal plant in Omaha beginning in July, followed by the permanent closing of the facility in August. The company said it plans to invest in infrastructure, equipment, technology and capabilities at manufacturing plants in Battle Creek; Lancaster, Pennsylvania; and Belleville, Ontario.
