Marshall approves one-year moratorium on data center projects

Marshall City Council unanimously approved a one-year moratorium on data center approvals during its Aug. 3 meeting. Council members said the pause will allow the city to study issues such as noise, environmental impacts, infrastructure capacity and potential zoning and ordinance changes before considering future data center proposals.

Rx Kids off to strong start as 14 Albion families enroll

Less than a month after launching in Calhoun County, the Rx Kids program has enrolled 14 Albion families, with three babies already born under the program and $19,500 in direct financial assistance distributed. Eligible families receive $1,500 during pregnancy and $500 per month during a baby’s first six months, with local leaders encouraging expectant parents to enroll before their child is born to receive the full benefit.

National Guard Northern Strike training activities scheduled in Battle Creek area

Residents may see military personnel, vehicles and related training activity in the Battle Creek area through Aug. 14 as part of the National Guard’s Northern Strike exercise. Limited activities are planned at designated locations on four nonconsecutive days, but officials said the exercise will not include large-scale maneuvers or troop movements throughout the city.
