Join us Nov. 5 at Squirrel Hollow to celebrate what we’ve built and help shape what comes next.
The community is invited to celebrate the 2026 launch of Black Squirrel News from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5 at Squirrel Hollow Golf Course in Battle Creek.
“We can’t afford to keep losing trusted local news,” said BSN co-founder Nick J. Buckley. “Black Squirrel News was created so our community can take greater ownership of how its stories are told.”
The free event offers a chance to talk with BSN’s founding team and other neighbors, share story ideas and learn about contributing or supporting the work.
Trusted local journalism helps a community understand itself and document its history. With local journalists and outlets stretched thin, community insight, feedback and support are essential to telling a fuller story of Calhoun County.
“Our community deserves to have a baseline of information from which we can all operate. Black Squirrel News is attempting to establish that, and it’s most accurate with input and engagement from our neighbors,” said Lucy Hough, a BSN co-founder.
Browse BSN’s reporting and photography and take home a free yard sign or sticker while supplies last. Food from the Patriot Pizza food truck and beverages will be available for purchase.
Unable to attend? You can still support BSN’s work or learn about paid opportunities for writers, editors, photographers and videographers.
